When I bought my 2011 Silverado, I wanted the 4.8L engine and 4L60E. Both were tried and true. The 4.8L does not have the active fuel management, which I did not want. The 4.8 does need a little help in the power department. It’s poky, slow. What are the best mods for 4.8 Silverado trucks?

Tuning and Software Upgrades – Tuning and software upgrades are essential for unlocking more horsepower and torque from your engine. A good tuner can greatly improve acceleration, response time, and overall driving experience when it’s properly installed. LR4 4.8 turbo kit – Forced induction improvements provide an even bigger power lift than a custom tune alone. Pros and Cons of LR4 4.8 performance upgrades

When it comes to modifying the 4.8-liter engine in your Silverado, there are several changes to consider – each with its own pros and cons. Understand the limitations of a 4.8-liter engine and decide which modifications work best for your goals before you spend money on upgrades.

LR4 4.8 heads: Depending on the cylinder head used, airflow can improve and lead to a more efficient engine. But it may reduce gas mileage due to increased pump losses and this is something that must be taken into consideration when optimizing the 4.8L V-8 in your Silverado.

Cold Air Intake System: Adding a cold air intake on your 4.8L Vortec provides a denser air charge for more power but it also creates additional heat that the factory injectors weren’t designed to manage, negating some of the advantages gained from increased air flow.

Exhaust System: A good quality exhaust system for a 4.8L provides many benefits in terms of improved horsepower, torque and fuel economy as well as reduced underhood temperatures and better sound control than stock equipment offers up. An improperly tuned exhaust however, can result in lost power or even damage to other components due to increased back pressure from excessive exhaust gases not clearing out fast enough from cylinders.

4.8 LR4 Cam kit: Considerable gains can be achieved by installing a performance camshaft but these require custom tuning so they don’t affect driveability or emissions adversely while providing maximum benefit. Without a professional tune up an aftermarket camshaft could cause pre-ignition or knocking which will definitely reduce lifespan of moving parts over time – so only experienced users should attempt fitting a high performance camshaft.
