What type of battery do you use in a dump trailer?

Battery types include lead-acid or Lithium Ion Phostphate (LiFePO4). Both have advantages and disadvantages.

Lead acid batteries are familiar to most of us. They come in two flavors: Sealed AGM or flooded. With lead-acid batteries, you will not be able to run the battery below 50 percent without charging them.

LiFeP04 batteries weigh less, store more energy than lead acid, and can be deep cycled. They are a great alternative to lead-acid.

How long does a dump trailer battery last?

If you will be using your dump trailer just a couple times a year, a lead-acid (SLA) battery should be adequate. After use, you will want to then recharge the battery before its next use and keep it on a battery tender.

A LiFeP04 battery will last much longer on a charge. If you are repeatedly using your dump trailer, a lithium battery would work best and give more dumps per charge.

Battery duration will depend on how charged it is, temperature, how hard it has to work. A lead-acid battery may only give two or three dumps.
