The Avtomat Kalashnikov (AK-47) is a Soviet-made gas-operated, selective fire assault rifle developed during the WWII by Mikhail Kalashnikov, hence the name.

It is recognized as the most extensively used assault rifles the world over because of its reliability, durability, low production cost and simplicity in design. This is true in military and tactical operations, as well as in target shooting competitions.

Some gun enthusiasts would say that putting the best scope for AK-47 would only be a waste of money as this rifle was primarily designed for short-range shooting and an open sight is more than enough for hitting targets. There are tactical and hunting scope available.

This argument notwithstanding, it can’t surely be discounted that a good scope increases the shooting accuracy of AK-47 at longer distances or when the lighting is not so ideal. Here are three great scopes for this assault rifle.

Nikon (1-4 x 20) Monarch African Riflescope

The Nikon (1-4 x 20) Monarch African riflescope is aptly tailored for big game buffs and highly competitive shooters, with super-wide fields of view to get on target fast and easy.

It has fully multi-coated optics that provides clear-cut viewing, with four full inches of eye relief and a lower power range to tackle quick shots in highly volatile, ‘both-eyes-open’ situations.

The Monarch is fitted with Nikon’s well-known Ultra Clear Coat system which affords up to 95% light transmission for visual precision and clarity.

It is also equipped with the long-proven German #4 reticle for fast target acquisition while stalking predators in low-light settings.

This 1-4x variable scope has 20mm objective lens diameter, 1-inch standard diameter tube, and minimum of 4mm exit pupil at maximum magnification. When it says “wide” FOV, it means really wide at 92.9-23.1 feet at 100 yards.

The low-variable power and significantly-wide FOV are a perfect combination for shooting moving game at medium-range. The maximum adjustment is 120 MOA, calibrated at ½ MOA per click.

The scope comes with limited lifetime manufacturer’s warranty against possible defects in materials and craftsmanship. It is sold at below $300.

NC Star The Liberator Combo

With the NC Star Liberator Combo optics you can have your money’s worth of numerous features to take full advantage of AK-47’s accuracy and reliability.

The Liberator is designed for both short and long range shooting accuracy. The MTAK Tri-Rail mount replaces the standard AK dust cover.

It comes with a fixed 4x scope with illuminated reticle for greater light transmission and maximum optical clarity. You can take shots at the AK’s point-blank range of 230 yards with deadly accuracy, while the APRLSG Green laser with remote pressure switch provides quick acquisition of target at 25-30 yards for rapid and precision shooting.

The scope’s objective lens diameter measures 30mm; FOV at 100 yards is 26.2 feet; sizeable exit pupil at 7.5mm; eye relief is 3 inches; ¼ MOA graduations for finer tuning.

Other features include a 1-inch tube diameter with aluminium weaver style rings and lens caps, adjustable side weaver style, and a matte-black lens coating that adds a nice touch to its exterior finish.

Its price range is within $100-$150.This is a compact scope measuring barely 4 inches and weighing 5.1 ounce.

Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight Riflescope

At the outset you’ll find the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot Sight Riflescope quite pleasing to the eye due to its high contrast front lens – a far cry from the otherwise drab looks other brands offer.

Bushnell offers it at an incredible price of around $80, quite cheap for a solidly-built scope. It is a multi-coated optics and guaranteed 100% shockproof, waterproof and fog-proof.

The scope provides a 1 x 25mm tilted front lens that reflects LED light to generate sharp and crisp red dot reticles; a durable and solid illumination control knob is used to adjust the red dot depending on brightness settings; unlimited field of view and eye relief; ½ inch click value with adjustment range of 70 inches.

This scope, which weighs 3.7 ounces and measures 2.4 inches, is definitely a great addition to your AK arsenal.

What is the best AK-47 scope?

The ½ MOA calibration of the Monarch may bother some shooters for being a bit too coarse compared to the fine-tuning capability of scopes with ¼ MOA increments. This shouldn’t be an issue for medium-range shooting or large-game targets. It also makes for quicker adjustment and shooting.

For long-range or small-target shooting, though, precision may be affected and the other options may be the better choice for certain shooting applications.

The Monarch, however, has the flexibility of magnification, very significant FOV, and great MOA adjustment range. It weighs twice the Liberator and about thrice the Bushnell, and costs more by as much difference. If these are not important considerations for the buyer, the Monarch is a perfect scope for the AK-47.
